Indore is situated on the Malwa Plateau in the central part of India.The city's history is associated with the famous queen Devi Ahilya Holkar of Holkar dynasty, well known throughout the country for her noble and pious nature and for her religious achievements.
Indore is the largest city of Madhya Pradesh acting as a prominent educational, industrial and training center of the state. It has a population nearing 30 lakhs. It is well connected with New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and other major cities of India by road,rail and air.
Indore has over four thousand small and medium industrial units and more than thirty-five large industrial units. It is one of the largest pharmaceutical industry centers of the country. Its contiguous area, Dewas has developed into a large industrial city accommodating companies like Tata Exports, Gajra Gears, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Standard Mills, etc. Also, its adjoining area, Pithampur, is fast developing into "Detroit of India", with the units of leading companies in India like Hindustan Motors, Kinetic Engineering, Eicher Motors, Bajaj Tempo, Crompton Greaves, Rallis India, HR Jhonson, Larson & Toubro, Bridgestone ACC India Ltd., etc. located therein.
It is the biggest center of soyabean crop in the country. It has a "National Research Center" for soyabean as well as an internationally reputed center established by the Department of Atomic Energy named as "Center for Advanced Technology" (CAT) . Recently a Software Technology Park and a Dry Port has been opened at Indore and Pithampur, respectively.
Notably Indore has an ideal atmosphere as a place of education. It has well established institutions in the Government as well as the Private Sector offering top class educational facilities. It has a modern yet conservative social outlook, in that it is ready to absorb fresh ideas while it maintains cultural heritage through yearly activities. It has a metropolitan atmosphere and has absorbed people from all parts of India.
